Curtains attract a lot of dust and bacteria (for example dust mites). Your curtains will also start to smell over time. That is why we recommend washing or dry cleaning your curtains once every 3/4 years. This will ensure a longer lifespan for your curtains, but above all a hygienic environment, which is good for your health.
Do you just want to make your curtains shorter, narrower or both? This is no problem for us. You give us your measurements and we will make your curtains. Minor repairs are also possible.
Usually steaming curtains takes about 2 days. If you want this faster, this can be discussed. However, cleaning curtains is precision work and requires care and attention. We naturally take into account that, for example, bedroom curtains are more urgent than living room curtains.

Yellow circles in your curtains, these are usually water circles. Unfortunately, we can never guarantee whether the yellow circles will go away. This depends on how long it has been in the curtain and what type of fabric the curtain is made of. The curtains usually need to be washed (if possible). We will then discuss this with you as a customer. Because washing curtains entails more risk due to shrinkage and wrinkling.
The curtains are treated with a fire-retardant liquid that is sprayed over the curtains. This liquid penetrates deep into the fibers of the curtains. Making your curtains fire-retardant is necessary for some companies for insurance purposes. For example, hotels, catering establishments, theater buildings, etc. You will receive a certificate from us that is valid for 3/4 years. An inspection must be carried out after 3 years. In most cases, curtains can only be dry cleaned, i.e. steam cleaned. This process takes place in a large machine, using a chemical solvent to dissolve dirt and grime. Drying also takes place in this machine. The curtains are then pressed manually.
Although it is sometimes stated on the washing label that the curtains can be washed, we do not recommend this in most cases. Washing the curtains causes the fibers to absorb a lot of water and swell. When drying, the fibers will become very intertwined, resulting in shrinkage and wrinkles. So washing curtains carries more risk.
It is possible for curtains to shrink during cleaning, although as professional cleaners we at gordijnenstomen.nl try to minimize this risk. How much a curtain can shrink depends on the type of fabric and how the manufacturer made the curtain. One curtain hardly shrinks to nothing and the other curtain can shrink a maximum of 3%. Most curtains are made of fabric that is stressed during manufacture. When this substance comes into contact with liquid, the fibers relax and shrink. This is called relaxation shrinkage. Fortunately, there is always a hem in a curtain, and in consultation we can always make the curtains back to the exact length.
There are many different types of lined curtains. Some lined curtains consist of 2 layers and other lined curtains can even consist of 3 or 4 layers. The material of lined curtains also varies widely. Some curtains are lined with a rubber blackout fabric, which can be a problem during cleaning. Over time, the rubber can become porous (for example due to the sun) and show small cracks. When cleaning, the rubber layer can come off, making the blackout fabric unusable. We often know what is and what is not possible. Due to our experience and so many different types of curtains that we clean, we can feel and even smell this. If in doubt, we will always contact you.
It is better to remove the hooks from the curtains in advance to prevent them from coming off during the cleaning process. The plastic rods can remain in place, as can the rods at the bottom of the hem of the curtain. Iron hooks in curtains should always be removed. If this gets caught in the curtains during steaming, the curtain may tear.
Silk curtains can be dry cleaned and is 90% no problem. But keep in mind that silk is sensitive to light influences. The silk can quickly weaken due to exposure to (sun) light. Although possible cracks in the webs are sometimes not visible before cleaning, they can appear after cleaning. Unfortunately, this cannot be prevented due to the extensive weakening of the silk fabric.
Yes, after cleaning the curtains, all bacteria and dust mites are removed. The dust mite feeds on skin flakes that we lose in the house every day and likes to live in duvets, mattresses, pillows and curtains. Many people are allergic to dust mites, so cleaning the curtains can help reduce the allergens.
Curtains with iron rings can generally be cleaned easily. However, there is a chance that a ring may be attached too narrowly in the fabric and come loose during the cleaning process. In that case, we at groenstomen.nl are not responsible for the ring becoming loose. But we can always restore this for you.
It is best to have curtains that hang close together cleaned at the same time. They are then cleaned together in the same bath. If you do not do this, there could be a color difference.
Nicotine deposits can usually be easily removed by dry cleaning. This also applies to pollution from candles, fireplaces or air vents. You will be amazed at how rough your curtains feel before cleaning, and how soft they are after cleaning.
Curtains are often heavier curtains because they have an insulating and blackout function. It is no problem for us to steam clean your curtains.
